How do we share information about cannabis now that it is legal? Too often, governments and consumers rely on frameworks, knowledge, and tropes built during the century of prohibition. But a new era for cannabis means a new way of how we talk about cannabis, cannabis consumption, and the potential benefits and harms of cannabis. But doing this within the limits of the Cannabis Act and social attitudes is a difficult task.
In this session, we'll discuss our latest findings about how to most effectively engage cannabis consumers in discussions about how to get the best possible experience with cannabis by employing mindful consumption and benefit maximization principles. We consider how these concepts can be employed in cannabis retail, at home, and with friends. We'll discuss this with an eye toward the latest research on cannabis benefits and harms and the current policy framework that explicitly limits some of this discussion in certain settings.
Learning outcomes: By the end of this session, attendees will:
1. Understand the concepts of harm reduction, benefit maximization, and mindful drug consumption as they relate to cannabis.
2.Employ those concepts in their own cannabis consumption practices and be able to describe them to others.
3. Identify how others' cannabis consumption experiences can be supported by employing those concepts.
4. Consider how to discuss those concepts in the context of current cannabis and other relevant legislation.
Objectives:
By the end of the session, learners will be able to:
1. Understand the role of terpenes in cannabis and how they contribute to the overall effects and aroma of different strains
